Data Recovery in Florida: WordPress Backups
You never know when you will need to restore files from a backup, so it is important to take the time to get one done.
A few weeks ago I had to upgrade one of my Wordpress blogs. Now doing this is not rocket science if you use the automated system provided by your web host. You just need to follow a few instructions and click your mouse button and away you go. I have done several upgrades this way with no trouble until one time when Wordpress issued a new version to fix potential security threats.
I followed the instructions and the upgrade went well. In effect the upgrade was a success. I then tried to load the site to confirm that it performed properly after the upgrade. The site did not load. A long error message filled the screen and I began to panic. Of course, I couldn’t immediately understand the message and I had to resort to some troubleshooting.
I later found out the error occurred because the new Wordpress version didn’t support one of my plug-ins. A plug-in is similar to an add-on in Excel or Word. Also, the author of the plug-in no longer supported it because Wordpress came up with its own version of the plug-in. I then had to search the Internet to find a solution to get my blog serviceable again.
It didn’t take long before I found the answer and I then had to find someone who could help me fix the problem. Had I not have backups of my MYSQL database I would have had to start a new blog from scratch. Having a reliable backup saved me from losing more than two years of posts since I started the blog.
It is a good reason to backup every time you decide to do something significant with your files.
