Data Recovery in Florida: ‘Tis The Season To Data Recovery

I remember two years ago sitting at my desk wondering how I could allow a virus to disable my computer. But I did what I had to do, taking all the necessary precautions like installing a firewall and using anti-virus software. I regularly scan my computer with an anti-virus program every day, including holidays once I am around the computer.

I even knew when the virus striked because my anti-virus program alerted me, giving me the choice to delete the attacker. But I had a senior moment when I saw the advisory, so I accidentally spread the virus throughout my computer system. Things got worse as I tried to restore the system on my own before deciding to get help.

The help cost me about $500 in technical support. Many of my friends who knew about the problem asked why I didn’t call them. Perhaps they thought I could have paid them the $500 instead. But most people are good at post mortems but come up with quick excuses when they have to perform.

So since it was Christmas, I figured few people would willingly come away from their celebrations without good reason. And since I needed to use the computer I made a desperate call to a technician listed in the Yellow Pages.

He didn’t mind making house calls, even on Christmas day. The techie ran certain tests but later said he had to take the computer away for further tests. So I couldn’t use the computer after all, I had to wait a little more than a day before the techie restored my data on to a compact disk. Phew!

So as you celebrate the holidays remember to watch out for power outages and spikes. If possible locate your computer where you don’t have a gazillion outlets that power seasonal decorations and ornaments. Treat your computer special, give it its own power outlet.

Also, backup your system as least once during the holiday season. Do it now if you haven’t done it already. Pay attention to downloads. Avoid download from sites you do not trust or know. Of course, you want to get that spiffy free download, but the evil ones know that and will be active this season, just like every other season.

So have a safe computing season and go backup your computer now before the evil monsters spoil your holidays.
