Data Recovery in Florida: Does Your File System Support Data Recovery?
The NTFS (New Technology File System) is the file system used in Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows NT and later operating systems. Previous versions of Microsoft’s operating systems, such as Windows 95, Windows 3000 and MS_DOS all used various versions of the FAT (File Allocation Table) file system including FAT16 and FAT32.
One important benefit of the NTFS file system is that it can support much longer file names. This gives the user far more freedom on the detail that they include in a file name and makes them easier to find - in theory. It was a pain having to use shorter file names under Windows 95 and other earlier versions of Windows operating systems.
The NTFS also comes complete with its own disk compression utility. This keeps working in the background to ensure the maximum amount of space is always available to the user without him or her even realizing that it is happening. That is the case with many of the features of NTFS.
