Can my records be restored?
It depends. You would likely be out of luck if there is extensive damage to the platter. Platters are basically disks sittting inside the drive and they function so that you can read information and store information. So if they are slightly damaged you would be able to recover most of your data. This means that you are unlikely to recover data that resides on a damaged portion of the platter.
Obsolescence also plays an important part in having your data recovered. Computer technology advances come with lightning speed and manufacturers only make parts that have sufficent demand. So while you may be able to recover your records, it would serve no purpose unless you can obtain the particular parts needed to make the entire storage system work.
However, there is good news if you have a recent model hard drive or other storage medium. That is, you don’t have to worry about obsolete parts. Once the geeks can restore the data, you will get on the road to reading nd writing to your hard drive, enjoying your photos, and listening to your favorite music.
