Make sure there is proper ventilation where you place your computer, and if you regularly work in extreme temperatures use a small fan to keep your computer cool.

You can avoid data loss if you pay attention to the particular sounds coming from your hard drive. For example, when a hard drive is failing you might hear it making a clicking or grinding noise. You should be even more alert if your hard drive didn’t make these sounds before.

Knowing that your hard drive with weaken with use is not enough. You still need to protect your data for the eventual outcome of having your hard drive crash. This means checking for irregular sounds and other signs that precede failure of your hard drive. It also means keeping one or more backups in a safe place.
