You never know when you will need to restore files from a backup, so it is important to take the time to get one done.
A few weeks ago I had to upgrade one of my Wordpress blogs. Now doing this is not rocket science if you use the automated system provided by your web host. You just need to follow a few instructions and click your mouse button and away you go. I have done several upgrades this way with no trouble until one time when Wordpress issued a new version to fix potential security threats.
I followed the instructions and the upgrade went well. In effect the upgrade was a success. I then tried to load the site to confirm that it performed properly after the upgrade. The site did not load. A long error message filled the screen and I began to panic. Of course, I couldn’t immediately understand the message and I had to resort to some troubleshooting.
I later found out the error occurred because the new Wordpress version didn’t support one of my plug-ins. A plug-in is similar to an add-on in Excel or Word. Also, the author of the plug-in no longer supported it because Wordpress came up with its own version of the plug-in. I then had to search the Internet to find a solution to get my blog serviceable again.
It didn’t take long before I found the answer and I then had to find someone who could help me fix the problem. Had I not have backups of my MYSQL database I would have had to start a new blog from scratch. Having a reliable backup saved me from losing more than two years of posts since I started the blog.
It is a good reason to backup every time you decide to do something significant with your files.

I remember two years ago sitting at my desk wondering how I could allow a virus to disable my computer. But I did what I had to do, taking all the necessary precautions like installing a firewall and using anti-virus software. I regularly scan my computer with an anti-virus program every day, including holidays once I am around the computer.
I even knew when the virus striked because my anti-virus program alerted me, giving me the choice to delete the attacker. But I had a senior moment when I saw the advisory, so I accidentally spread the virus throughout my computer system. Things got worse as I tried to restore the system on my own before deciding to get help.
The help cost me about $500 in technical support. Many of my friends who knew about the problem asked why I didn’t call them. Perhaps they thought I could have paid them the $500 instead. But most people are good at post mortems but come up with quick excuses when they have to perform.
So since it was Christmas, I figured few people would willingly come away from their celebrations without good reason. And since I needed to use the computer I made a desperate call to a technician listed in the Yellow Pages.
He didn’t mind making house calls, even on Christmas day. The techie ran certain tests but later said he had to take the computer away for further tests. So I couldn’t use the computer after all, I had to wait a little more than a day before the techie restored my data on to a compact disk. Phew!
So as you celebrate the holidays remember to watch out for power outages and spikes. If possible locate your computer where you don’t have a gazillion outlets that power seasonal decorations and ornaments. Treat your computer special, give it its own power outlet.
Also, backup your system as least once during the holiday season. Do it now if you haven’t done it already. Pay attention to downloads. Avoid download from sites you do not trust or know. Of course, you want to get that spiffy free download, but the evil ones know that and will be active this season, just like every other season.
So have a safe computing season and go backup your computer now before the evil monsters spoil your holidays.

Photo recovery software can help you recover your lost photos from almost any storage holder. But like everything on the market you have a few choices.
The choice, and price, of photograph recovery software depends on the number of media types that you want to be able to extract your pictures from. You need to shop around to find the program that is best for your needs.
Many of the photograph recovery programs have the ability to work with more than one storage device. All come with easy to use user-interfaces. But the simple instructions for using the programs don’t add more stress than necessary.
Of course, you are struggling with losing your photos but you just have to spend a few minutes and read carefully the instructions before trying to get your photos back. You can recover most of your photos. But it is unlikely you will get all back whatever the storage media you used.
While this is not good enough, consider it as the cost of learning how to secure your photos. This means the next time something like this happens, you will have suitable backups.
Finally, you should seriously consider investing in a photograph recovery program now, before you find that you need it.

You can’t beat a digital camera when it comes to convenience, portability, and ease of use. However, just as quickly as you can take delightful photos, so too can your photos disappear into thin air. You store your photos on digital cameras just as you would store them on the hard drive in your computer, or similar storage devices.
This means you could lose those golden memories. Imagine losing pictures of your newborn baby’s early months because of a scratched CD. Or the flash card that you stored the photographs of your daughter’s wedding doesn’t work. Or your computer crashed and you hadn’t backed up any of the images of your recent trip to the Great Wall of China. These events will make for a terrible day.
Sometimes only you can see the value in the photos you take. Losing them mean you will gradually forget the experiences, something you don’t want to do. Photos help us cope with the present, as we relive the past that always looked so much better than now. But there is hope.
You can recover your lost photos by making a few adjustments in your life. No, you don’t have to shave your head and go live in a monastery. But you can check out various software programs which can help you recover your lost memories. And the good thing is these programs can recover photos from any storage medium.

These days, a growing number of people use digital cameras rather than those needing a film cartridge. Also, the popularity of mobile phones with cameras means that almost anyone has the ability and opportunity to take pictures whenever and wherever they want.
You can upload photographs onto a computer through various means. Once you transfer the images, you can edit the pictures in whatever way you want, such as cropping unwanted areas from the original or retouching the color of a person’s eyes to remove the dreaded flash induced ‘red-eye’.
Also, you can e-mail the photographs to friends, business associates, and family, upload them to a website, print them, or store them on a removable media for safekeeping.
Many digital cameras have extra memory that you can remove, known as a memory stick or memory card. This allows you to store more photographs once you have filled up your camera’s built-in memory to its capacity.
Digital cameras are handy if you are going on holiday. Because they are portable memory, you can take them anywhere you like. They are great for events where you will want to take many pictures. This also means you don’t need access to a computer to transfer some of the images and free up more space.

Data Recovery in Florida: Software for Data Recovery
Disk imaging is an important method in restoring your computer to a working state. Disk imaging software helps you to rebuild your system using an image of the disk you previously saved to another computer.
Once you recreate your original hard drive settings, the rest is easy. The most you will have to do is redo any changes that you made between the time you took the last disk image and the time of computer failure.
It is worth noting that computer hard drive disk images have more than one benefit. They are great for rebuilding a formatted system, but you can also use them for creating cloned computers.
Also, the increase in people working from home created yet another benefit. You can take the image from your office computer and load it onto your home computer with little hassle or time wasting.

There is a far easier and more efficient solution to restore your system after a crash or computer failure. Disk imaging, as its name suggests, creates a picture of your entire hard drive as it stands at a particular time.
This not only includes files and folders that you have created but also all the programs that you have previously installed. Also you need to again customize your system as you had done before, so you will work more effectively.
You can use this disk image to recreate your system in a fraction of the time that performing all the individual installations and settings would take.
There are several different disk imaging software programs available that are easy to use. The important point to remember is that you need to create your image on another hard drive and not on the one that you want to copy.
You can use any removable storage device or networked hard drive or even take advantage of an online storage system.
The image file is likely to be large, because of the size of the disk, so you need to consider buying storage media which is at least five percent larger than your current hard drive.

If you are like most people who own a computer, you would know what it means to have your computer fail. Perhaps, it is like having your car breakdown when you need it most. Had you made backup plans for the day this would happen, you most likely can continue your routine without interruption, having already backed up your data.
However, you still need to reformat your hard drive and then begin the long and tedious task of reinstalling the software that your computer used to have. Maybe you are lucky and have a friend who is computer smart and can help you with reinstalling all those system and application files onto your computer.
In addition, once you get the programs reinstalled, you still have to reconfigure the programs to have the same settings and other customizable features that you had before. Finally, you can then transfer the files and documents from your backup and then you are back in business. The problem is that this is all time-consuming and you are likely to have lost valuable working time during the rebuild.

NTFS has many benefits over the FAT system. Not least of all, it is far more reliable and has made the dreaded ‘blue screen’ a thing of the past. This comes as a huge relief to those who struggled valiantly with or, more realistically, against the Windows 95 and other FAT file system based computer crashes.
In the event of system problems, the NTFS is far superior to the FAT system because it is a recoverable file system as it creates a log file of all communications made with the file system. This means the recovery process is far simpler and quicker as there is a record of all changes made and you can roll back changes to a state before the problem occurred.
The FAT system was likely to fail far more often, as it had a few special objects. If one of these failed, the sector where the particular special object existed would register a failure. NTFS does not have any of these special objects, which prevents this problem occurring. It also keeps many copies of the Master File Table. This means the system would replace a corrupted table with another.

The Windows NTFS file system offers use greater security than with the earlier FAT system. In particular, you now have greater protection for individual files and directories.
You are able to assign access rights to any file or directory with the choice of settings including no access, read only access, or full access. This also extends to the programs that are on a particular computer. And users could only run the particular programs they have access to. If you need it you can easily and automatically encrypt and decrypted the data stored on a hard disk.
Also, you can assign disk quotas to different users to restrict the disk space that a person can use. This also means limiting the disk space users can access on a particular partition. Only the users see these settings but the system administrator does not.
This customization is useful in environments where several users share one computer. This makes it unlikely for one user to have access to another user’s work. It also prevents changes or accidental erasure of work without the correct user’s permission.
